Abdul Gaffar Choudhury (Son of: Late Hazi Wahed Reza Choudhury), is a Bangladeshi famous author and columnist, perhaps best known for his lyric Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano -- which has become the main song commemorating the Language Movement, the touchy music having been composed by Shaheed Altaf Mahmud. He left Bangladesh in 1974 and settled in London from where he regulalrly writes columns in Bengali newspapers of Bangladeshi.
Life
He is producing the film "The Poet of Politics" about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, directed by Shyam Benegal and will feature Amitabh Bachchan as the Sheikh Mujib. The Poet and Journalist Rabbani Choudhury wrote a book about `Abdul Gaffar Choudhury : Bastobotar Nirikhey (Utso Proksion, Dhaka, 2004).
Political Views
Gaffar is a well known writer/columnist who holds secularist political views and he is a strong supporter of the ideology of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He has sometimes been criticized for pro-Awami League writings. Though the fact is if any one holds the secularist view and in favor of the liberation of Bangladesh, subsequently he is alleged as an Awami League supporter.
He is considered a living legend in Bangladesh. He is one of a very few living Bangladeshi writers with any strong political philosophy.
